Yours, in the Storm

Dear Reader,

There is a song we used to sing in my High School choir that goes as follows:

"Master the tempest is raging
The billows are tossing high"

Unfortunately i can't remember most of the words to the song but i do remember that the song was written by a man who had a chronic illness and that it is based off of the bible scripture Mark 4:35-39.That part where the disciples of Jesus wake him up because there is a storm happening and he calms the storm.
I also remember that the chorus of the song went like this:

"Peace, Be Still".

This is a direct quotation of Jesus' words to quell the storm. The reason why i am telling you about this song that i can barely remember is that i really haven't been able to shake off the message of the song. It's been 7 years since i sang the song but ever since i heard the story of it's composer, i haven''t been able to forget it. The story goes that the song was written because the composer had no hope left to live. Apparently, on his deathbed this composer felt as if  he had been caught in a "tempest" and was calling upon the only person who has ever been known to calm a storm.

Dear reader,
Who do you call upon when the tempests are raging?
When the tide rises and the earth shifts beneath your feet
Who do you trust to get you out of trouble?

This particular composer was a man of faith and felt it best to call on Jesus, and you may or may not agree, based on your belief system or religion, but i share his sentiments. I have been facing some storms of my own lately and although a post-teenage crisis cannot compare to this man's chronic illness it gives me hope to know that, even when knocking at death"s door, one can still find hope somewhere.

It also gives me hope to note that the last two lines of the final verse of the song say:

"Earth's sun in the calm lake is mirrored
And heaven is within my breast."

These words speak to me of a time when the storm will turn into a "calm lake" that will mirror the sun. That's right! According to this guy, not only will the lake be calm but the sun will come out and be reflected on the calm.

My love,
If the concept of a white man with luxurious hair (this is a joke, btw! I don't know what Jesus's hair looked like.) called Jesus Christ who commands storms to die down is a little too ridiculous, too fantastic, too fictitious or too unbelievable for you(and i understand that it might be, which would maybe make my post a little irrelevant for you.). Then i really hope that you can at least find this last part worth reading:

That a man on his deathbed and in pain had enough hope in him to write of a time when the storm will pass and the pain will stop. That a man surrounded by angry seas and grey clouds could still think (let alone write and sing!) of a sun shining one day.
That, to me, is worth thinking about!
And worth finding hope in!

I am sending you love and light. I am praying that comfort finds you and that you realise that the sun is going to shine on you. That you will be okay.

Yours in the storm,
Siboe💜
